Research activity is focused on lighting systems to enhance the technology potential for efficient utilization of energy for lighting, either interior illumination or exterior illumination, or special applications. In accordance with the trend of decreasing energy demand and discussions on so called “ecodesign requirements”, i.e. requirements for energy efficient lighting technology systems as well (e.g. standard 2005/32/EC describing requirements for interior indirect light sources) there is a need for new, perspective and economical solutions as this sector has a 20 % share in consumption of primary energy, and reductions are possible. The research activity is also aimed to new methods of measurement and evaluation of light characteristics.
